Adults may change their names through a legal proceeding. A client may easily restore her maiden name within a divorce proceeding.
A parent may also ask the court to change a child's name.

The court charges filing fees for name changes not made in a divorce proceeding.
Name changes not part of a divorce must also be published in a local adjudicated newspaper, which is an additional charge set by the newspaper.
