Parents may have joint custody which is an arrangement whereby both parents share responsibility and authority over the child at all times, while one parent has primary phyical custody.
A parent may have sole custody which is an arrangement whereby one parent has the authority to make decisions relating to the child's health, education, religion and living arrangements.
