Adoption

We represent and assist clients with different types of adoptions:

Independent Adoptions:

  • An Independent Adoption is where birth parents and the adoptive parents enter into an agreement that the adoption should proceed.

Relative Adoptions:

  • A Relative Adoption is where the person adopting the child is related to the child.

Step-Parent or Foster-Parent Adoptions:

  • A Step-parent Adoption is where the spouse of a child's custodial parent adopts that child.

Domestic Partnership or Adult Adoptions:

  • An Adult Adoption is where someone adopts a person who is over the age of 18 years old and not related to the person adopting him/her.

Agency Adoptions:

  • An Agency Adoption is where parents adopt a child through a licensed private adoption agency.  Birth parents relinquish their rights as parents to an agency but work with the agency to place their child while the agency is legally responsible for the care and custody of the child until the child is adopted.

Intercountry Adoptions:

  • An Intercountry Adoption is where parents adopt a child from another country and bring the child to their home country permanently.

Adoption creates a parent-child relationship by judicial order between two parties.
